Agustin Z. Capinig, Jr., a man of quiet strength, boundless faith, and a legendary sense of humor, passed away at the age of 79 in Clover, South Carolina. Born in Aroroy, Masbate, Philippines, Agustin lived a life defined by his devotion to God and his unwavering love for his family.
Agustin was a man who led by serving. While he was often the quietest person in the room, his presence provided a steady sense of peace and security. To his wife, Merilyn , he was a devoted partner who found his greatest joy in "spoiling" her. Wherever Merilyn was, Agustin was sure to be right there by her side. He expressed his love through action—whether it was doing the laundry, cleaning, or cooking delicious meals for his children and grandchildren.
His faith was the cornerstone of his life. A "prayer warrior" in the truest sense, Agustin’s family grew used to him spontaneously exclaiming, "Hallelujah!" or "I love you, Jesus!" throughout the day. His boldness for Christ was forged in Saudi Arabia, where he worked for 14 years. In a place where faith could be dangerous, Agustin courageously smuggled Gideon Bibles to share the Gospel. Upon moving to the United States, he became a beloved member of the Environmental Services team at Gaston College and a prayer warrior of the Union Road Church in Gastonia.
Agustin was famous for his "corny" jokes. He would often fumbled the punchlines, only to laugh harder than anyone else, repeating the missed line until the whole room was caught up in his joy. He was a man who could find the light in any situation—even if it meant playing a mischievous game of "catch the booger" with his daughter to pass the time during a long sermon.
He had a green thumb, a love for a good cup of coffee, and a heart that always rooted for the underdog. Whether he was "doom scrolling" through Christian news or singing "In the Name of Jesus" to ward off a spiritual chill on a dark street, Agustin was a man who made everyone around him feel that, as long as he was there, things would be okay.
Agustin is survived by his beloved wife, **Merilyn**; his children, **Merijun** (Andre Allen), **Jonimae** (Tommy Lara), and **Agustin Domingo** (Jovey); and his cherished grandchildren, **Giovanni, Gianni, Mervy,** and **Kirby**. He also leaves behind his siblings, **Marylis Cordova, Cesar Capinig, Enrico Capinig,** and **Lety Conley**.
He has finally returned to the Master he served so well. We can only imagine him now, in the presence of his Savior, finally hearing the punchlines to all the best jokes and exhaling one final, joyful "Praise the Lord."
