Bennie Reid Wooten, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on January 5, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 14, 1945, in Gaston County, North Carolina, and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, demonstrating a commitment to his country that shaped his character throughout his life.
Bennie's professional journey began at Duke Power, where he dedicated many years of his career. He later worked at Dixie Electric and took on various part-time jobs, showcasing his strong work ethic and resourcefulness.
A devoted member of Restoring Hope Foursquare Church (Dallas Foursquare), Bennie embraced his faith with enthusiasm and love. He was known for his passion for singing and warmth towards his church family, which was central to his life. Bennie’s love for sports brought him great joy, as he enjoyed engaging in all kinds of athletic activities, coaching in Dallas for years. Bennie was a remarkable family man who took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, whom he regarded as his proudest accomplishments. It was at church that Bennie and his beloved Patsy raised a family and shared countless memories.
He is survived by his children: Lindsey Wooten, Dana Walters, Chris Wooten, Jason Wooten (Kristen), and Matt Wooten (Montae), as well as his daughter-in-law, Kim Briggs His adoration for his grandchildren was evident; he cherished Jeffery Briggs (Sylvia), Jacob Briggs, Jordan Walters, Brittany Leviner (Tyler), Michael Wooten, Cuyler Wooten, Colvin Wooten, Madeleine Wooten, Brae Wooten, Alexis Deal (Bryan), and Brooks Byrd. Bennie was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Miriam, Ezra, Cohen, Judah, and Zeke, whom he cherished deeply, his sister, Joyce Dockery (Lloyd, Jr); sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Larry Huss, (a special thank-you to all they did for Pat and Bennie)
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cordell and Lillie Jones Wooten; his first wife, Anne Leonard Wooten, who passed in 1987; and his second wife, Patsy Rhyne Wooten, who left this world on December 4, 2025, their son Jeff Briggs, Bennie also mourned the loss of his siblings: Andy Wooten, Joe Wooten, Hilda Greene, and Rosemary Grubbs.
Bennie Wooten’s legacy of love, faith, and commitment to family will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Restoring Hope Foursquare Church , 1026 Dallas Stanley Hwy., Dallas, North Carolina, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM with Pastor Cameron Bryson officiating. His family invites all who knew him to join in honoring his memory and all the joy he brought into the lives of many. Pallbearers will be Joe Walters, Kenny Hayes, Joe Hawkins, Steven Rhyne, Weston Beaver, Jordan Beaver
The burial will take place at Hardin Community Baptist Church, 548 Hardin Road, Dallas, NC 28034 with Military honor by the U.S. Air Force and the Gaston County Honor Guard.
His legacy lives on in his family, whose proudest accomplishment he deemed to be-his family.
