Betty Neal Burgin, a beloved sister, aunt, and cherished friend, left this world peacefully on January 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 16, 1939, Betty’s vibrant spirit and infectious laughter were a constant source of joy throughout her life.
Betty dedicated a significant part of her career to Bell South, where she worked diligently until her retirement. Following her years of service, she embraced a new chapter in her life, moving to the serene town of Bolivia, North Carolina. It was here that she continued to foster deep connections with her family, cherishing moments spent together and creating lasting memories that would be treasured for generations. She enjoyed working in her garden, fishing and traveling. She loved taking cruises with Bill and traveling around the country.
She was more than just a family member; she was the fun-loving sister to her brothers, John Neal and Joe Neal. Her spirited personality and warm heart also made her a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Betty’s relationships were marked by her genuine kindness and an unwavering support that extended to her dear special cousin, Deborah Carpenter Kennedy.
Survivors include her niece, Crystal Hale and her great nieces, Keena Neal, Melony Shinn and Charity Neal, and sister-in-law, Florence Neal and several close cousins.
Her parents, Ervin and Ethelda Neal, predeceased her, leaving behind a legacy of love that Betty carried forward throughout her life, and her beloved companion of 26 years, Billy Nicholson; brothers, John Neal, Frank Neal and his wife Marie; niece, Lisa and nephews, Frank, Jr and Alvin.
A visitation to honor her life will be held on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation in Gastonia, North Carolina, beginning at 11:00 AM until 11:45. Following the visitation, family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, at Gaston Memorial Park Mausoleum of Peace at 12:00 PM, with a memorial gathering.
Betty Neal Burgin will be profoundly missed by her family and friends, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in their hearts as they share her stories and celebrate the beautiful life she lived.
