Dallas – Mary "Betty" Brafford McKenzie, 85, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Gaston County, NC on March 26, 1936 to the late Clyde Benjamin Brafford and Bessie Perkins Brafford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of over 40 years, Robert Lee McKenzie; her siblings, Faye Freeman, Ruth Brafford, Ralph Brafford, Earl Brafford and Ben Brafford.
Betty was an active member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She dearly loved her church and church family. She also enjoyed her time with her five lunch lady friends and took great pride in cutting her grass (acres of grass). She loved shopping and watching the Atlanta Braves baseball. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many.
Survivors include her son, Mike (April) McKenzie; daughter, Carol (Bryon) Randolph; her wonderful grandchildren, Allison Randolph, Matthew (Taylor) Randolph, Justin McKenzie, Madeline McKenzie and Brittany Green; great-grandchildren, Aria Gray and Maverick Randolph; sister Marie (James) Finger and sister in law, Marie Brafford.
Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m., Saturday, July 24th at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, 5306 Dallas Cherryville Highway, Bessemer City, NC and the Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Doug Nab and Pastor Fain Farmer officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Calvin Crawford, Joseph Hunter, Reid Brafford, Joey, Greg, Rick and Glenn Freeman.
