Candace Taylor Capps (“Candy”), 77, of Gaston County, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
Born on December 31, 1948, to the late Raymond and Joan Moss Taylor, Candy was a lifelong resident of Gaston County. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found immense joy in the love of her family. Candy was preceded in death by her sisters, Carol Maney and Alice Cleary.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Benny Capps; her daughters, Sherry Wiggins (Tony) and Crystal Shields (Ric); her adored grandchildren, Taylor Wiggins, Allyson Wiggins, Jacob Wiggins, Chase Shields (Breezy), Walker Shields, and Oakleigh Shields; and her precious great-grandson, Capps Shields. Candy is also survived by her nephew, Chuck Edge.
Candy will always be remembered for her warm smile, generous heart, and the unconditional love she shared so freely with everyone around her. She had a special gift for making people feel welcomed and cared for, and her kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.
She was truly an amazing nana, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family. The bond she shared with her grandchildren was filled with laughter, warmth, and countless cherished memories that will live on for generations.
Candy shared a deep and devoted love with her husband, a bond built on years of commitment, companionship, and unwavering support. Together, they created a life filled with meaningful moments and enduring memories that will never be forgotten.
While our hearts are saddened by her passing, we find comfort in knowing she is at peace. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will forever be a source of strength to those she leaves behind.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, at Sandy Plains Baptist Church, 5323 Union Road, Gastonia North Carolina, with Pastor Josh Glandon officiating.
