Captain Phillip Justin Maxwell

Captain Phillip Justin Maxwell, a dedicated man who served his community with honor and valor, passed away on July 4, 2024, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. Born on June 21, 1976, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, Phillip touched the lives of many with his unwavering commitment to service and his vibrant personality.

With a career spanning over two decades, Phillip made significant contributions as a member of the Gaston County Sheriff's Office and the Dallas Rescue Squad. His dedication to upholding the law and ensuring the safety of his community was truly admirable. Additionally, Phillip proudly served in the U.S. Army 101st Calvary and 3-518th Infantry Regiment Drill Instructor Unit, Hickory, NC.

Phillip's passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for hunting, fishing, camping, and playing golf. He found joy in strumming his guitar, singing tunes, and nurturing his musical talents. Phillip treasured moments spent with family and friends. He was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Dallas.

Phillip is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 20 years, Martha Wilson Maxwell; his mother, Deanna Moore Maxwell; brothers, Peter Maxwell (Twayna), P.J. Maxwell (Melissa) and his children, Dalton and Sydney; mother-and father-in-law, Larry and Frances Wilson; sister-in-law, Laura Baylor (John) along with their children Isabella and Frances; as well as his cherished fur baby, Millie, and many wonderful friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Reverend Robert Melvin Maxwell, grandparents, Paul and Frances Moore and A. J. and Ida Maxwell.

Phillip's personality endeared him to many as a wonderful husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. The sudden loss of such a compassionate soul has left a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.

To gather to pay our respects and celebrate Phillip's life, there will be a lie-in-state on Monday July 8th from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. without the family present. Visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 9th at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., July 10th at Gastonia First Assembly of God, 777 South Myrtle School Road with Reverend Robert Sain and Reverend Naomi Sease Carriker officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U. S. Army Honor Guard and Police Honors rendered by the Gaston County Sheriff Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Dallas Rescue Squad, 206 South Oakland Street, Dallas, NC 28034 or Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, New York 10306.
