Lowell - Carolyn Barker Mathis, 83, made her journey to Heaven on October 24, 2022. She passed away peacefully at Robin Johnson House with her loving family by her side  

Carolyn was born on October 29, 1938 to the late Ralph E Barker, Sr .and Era Lee Ballard Barker. She was proceeded in death by many loved ones and her ex-husband, Maurice Mathis. 

Carolyn was a loving and devoted caregiver who was always taking care of her family and friends. She had a passion to help those in need. She loved shopping, being stylish, and staying active. Carolyn was a 1957 graduate of Dallas High School where she was a cheerleader and basketball player. As a youth, she also participated and won many skating contests. In her 40’s, she became a member of the Charlotte Shag Club. She enjoyed shag dancing and beach music. At 72, she retired from Broadspire Insurance where she was an administrative supervisor. After retirement, she stayed active with her 38 club, the Lowell Girls, Women of the Word at Parkwood Baptist Church, Parkwood Clothing Community Outreach and Silver Sneakers at the YMCA. She was a social person who was always excited to spend time with her family, and friends. Carolyn was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to so many. 

Carolyn is survived by two sons, Marty Mathis and wife Amy, Scott Mathis and wife Sheryl; one daughter, Nikki Stokes and husband Bobby; 3 grandchildren whom she adored, Cameron Mathis, Jeff Mathis, Christopher Mathis; her siblings, Ed Barker and wife Sherry, Lucy Hodge, Reggie Barker, Bob Barker, Mark Barker and wife Paulette; several sisters-in-laws, many nieces, nephews and cherished friends. We will miss you every day until we meet again.

The family will have a private celebration of her life at a later date. 

Inurnment will be at Evergreen “A Quiet Place”

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that you donate to the sweet and caring Robin Johnson Hospice House.
