Carolyn Clevenger Whitworth, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully at her residence on May 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 3, 1938, in Newport, Tennessee, she exemplified a life filled with faith, devotion, and service to others.
For over 16 years, Carolyn dedicated her career as a Med Tech Supervisor at Country Time Assisted Living. Her commitment to helping those in need was a testament to her caring spirit, reflecting her deep love for the Lord and her passion for sending letters and phone calls of encouragement to lift the hearts of others. Carolyn’s personality shone brightly, drawing others to her warmth and compassion. She also was a wonderful singer and song writer.
Her life was richly woven with cherished moments spent with her family. Carolyn is survived by her children, John Wayne Whitworth, Jr. , Rhonda Jones (Steve), Suzanne Patterson (Yancey), Samuel Whitworth (Adrianna), Rachael Gantt (Todd), and Joy Godwin (Phillip). She was also a proud grandmother to 15 grandchildren, Anna Sepulveda, Ryan Godwin (Katlyn), Whitney Varnadore, Brent Hunt, Joshua Whitworth, Wayne Baumgarner, Jr., Brandon Gantt (Kaitlynn), Samantha Dixon (Ethan), Daniel Whitworth (Cristin), Abby Godwin; and step-grandchildren, Ashley, Jessie and Whitney Patterson, Santiago and Mariana Quintero and a loving great-grandmother to many wonderful great-grandchildren, all of whom brought joy and pride to her heart and also a sister, Barbara Ann Moore.
As an active member of Only Believe Church in Dallas, Carolyn's faith was a cornerstone of her life, inspiring those around her. She found delight in simple pleasures, such as enjoying word find puzzles, which provided her with a sense of joy and fulfillment. Most of all she read her Bible everyday faithfully.
Carolyn leaves behind the enduring legacy of her devotion to her family and her unwavering spirit of kindness. She is preceded in death by her parents, James Donald Clevenger and Margaret Alene Fine Clevenger, as well as her siblings, Gloria McDonald, Linda Eckard, Quindell Lee Clevenger, and Cynthia Denise Clevenger and the father of her children, John Wayne Whitworth, Sr. Their memories will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
The community will come together to honor Carolyn's beautiful life. Visitation will be held at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation in Gastonia from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, May 26, 2025, followed by a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, May 27 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Mark Hall and Pastor Richie Douglas officiating. She will then be laid to rest at Gaston Memorial Park, Garden of Prayer A section. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ryan Godwin, Brent Hunt, Joshua Whitworth, Wayne Baumgarner, Jr., Brandon Gantt,, Daniel Whitworth .
Carolyn Clevenger Whitworth will be deeply missed, but her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
