Catherine Janice Draughn

Catherine Janice Draughn, 82, passed away on April 18, 2025 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Graham County, North Carolina, on September 24, 1942 to the late Enoch and Lela Crisp. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Keith Draughn; children, Donna Penley Byrd and William Penley; her siblings, Evelyn Crisp, Howard Crisp, Ray Crisp, Walter Crisp, Oliver Crisp, and James Crisp; her granddaughters, Melissa Byrd and Shelley Burgess.

Catherine enjoyed shopping and watching Hallmark movies in her free time. Most of all she loved being around her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Catherine leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Penley; sister, Virginia Braswell; grandchildren, Logan Scott, Janith Scott and wife Samantha Scott, Justin Bradford and fiancé Jusena Grant, Jessica Turner and husband Reuben Turner, Roy Burgess and wife Erica Burgess, William Burgess, Catherine Hill and husband Ernest Hill, Crystal Brown and husband Jonah Brown, Dawn Belk and husband Brian Belk; 26 great-grandchildren; beloved sisters-in-law; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at City Church, 3100 City Church Street, Gastonia, North Carolina, with Pastor Dickie Spargo officiating.
