Charles King Gunn

Gastonia - Charles King Gunn, born on December 27, 1933, passed away on May 21, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his beloved family. A stalwart figure in the community, Charles owned and operated many successful businesses in Gaston County throughout his life. His professional ventures were not merely occupations; they were a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and passion for making money, a pursuit he approached with a sense of enjoyment and dedication.

Beyond his business acumen, Charles was known for his vibrant personality and varied interests. He had a love for cooking and grilling out, often preparing meals that brought family and friends together. Charles was an adventurer at heart, relishing in travels and enjoyable trips to the beach. He had a particular fondness for old cars and was an avid NASCAR fan, reflecting his lifelong enthusiasm for automobiles and speed. He was inducted into the inaugural Carolina Speedway Hall of Fame. He received a key to the City of Gastonia from his friend and Mayor Walker Reid, III.

Among the memories he cherished most tenderly were those spent with his family, particularly his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. Charles’s legacy is carried on by his children: Charles Dean Gunn (Heather), Timothy Lynn Gunn (Lisa), Jeffrey King Gunn (Beverly), Candie Benard (Brent), Michelle Jackman (Ken), and Taylor Gunn, as well as his grandchildren, Dino, Timmy, Cody, Caiden, and Kendyl, along with his great-grandchildren, Leah, Lucas, and Reegan, his sister, Linda Beckham. The mothers of his children, Patricia Fowler Gunn, and JoAnn  Aiken Gunn also remains a significant figure in his life story. Preceding him in death were his parents, Oscar Lamb Gunn and Viola King Gunn, and his grandson, Robbie King Gunn and daughter, Teresa Ann Gunn, also Thirteen brothers and sisters.

A Visitation will be held in honor of Charles at Southminster Church in Gastonia, NC, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Following this, a Celebration of Life will take place at the same location on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM, inviting all who knew and loved him to gather in remembrance and celebration of a life well-lived. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Pallbearers will be Butch Neil, Joe Davis, Matthew Jones, Kenny Sauceda, Tony Martin and Charles Brown.

Charles King Gunn leaves behind a legacy of hard work, family devotion, and cherished memories, which will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved him.
