Chrissy Ann Stamey, 47, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026, at her home in Mount Holly, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 6, 1979, in Gaston County, North Carolina, Chrissy was the daughter of Margaret Price Stamey and the late Jerry Wayne Stamey. The youngest of three girls, she grew up in Dallas, NC, and cherished her role as the little sister. From childhood on, her mom lovingly called her “Tater,” a nickname Chrissy could never quite escape and one that remained a treasured part of the family’s story.
Chrissy was young at heart, fun and full of life. She was sentimental and grounded, yet wonderfully free-spirited, with a sense of adventure and a desire to experience all that life had to offer. Although she faced several chronic health conditions later in life, she always did her best to remain positive and didn’t want those challenges to define her. Chrissy was a strong woman who knew her own mind. She wasn’t afraid to speak up, stand her ground or stand up for the things and people she believed in. Those who knew her always knew where she stood, and that strength and conviction were an unmistakable part of who she was.
Chrissy graduated from North Gaston High School, Class of 1997, attended the University of North Carolina Charlotte and later graduated from Presbyterian School of Radiologic Technology. Caring for others came naturally to her, and she dedicated her career to healthcare. She began as an ED tech in Charlotte, then became an X-ray tech, later worked as a personal caregiver and eventually transitioned into the administrative side of healthcare. Whatever her role, she was drawn to helping and caring for people, especially those who needed a little extra kindness and attention.
That same compassionate spirit extended to animals. Chrissy was a devoted animal lover and passionate supporter of animal rescues, with an especially soft spot for those others might overlook. She gravitated toward senior and special-needs dogs, including those who were blind or needed extra care, believing they deserved every bit as much love as any other. Her beloved dog, Dude, held an especially dear place in her heart.
Chrissy also knew how to have fun. She loved reading, decorating, cars and fashion, and she had a special affection for all things Marilyn Monroe. And when Notre Dame was playing football, there was little question where Chrissy would be. An avid Fighting Irish fan, she rarely missed a game. Go Irish!
Christmas, Halloween, Easter, birthdays, or simply an excuse to get everyone together, Chrissy loved a celebration. It wasn't the occasion itself that mattered most. It was having her family and friends gathered around her. Those moments, filled with laughter, traditions, including silly Snapchat filters, and the people she loved, were among her most cherished.
Above all else, Chrissy loved her family deeply. Her beloved son, Kalib, and his wife, Kiersten, were the center of her world. The love and pride she had for them were immeasurable.
Chrissy will be remembered for her strength, her caring heart and the spark she brought into the lives of those around her. She loved deeply, celebrated wholeheartedly and understood that life could be messy and imperfect, but family had a way of finding its way back to one another. She treasured the grace of second chances, the healing that comes with time and the simple gift of being together again.
In addition to her Dad, Jerry Stamey, Chrissy was preceded in death by her Paw Paw and Maw Maw, Burlin “Jack” and Mary Price, and her Grandma, Jessie Anderson Moore.
Those left to cherish her memory include her Mama, Margaret Price Stamey; her beloved son, Kalib Smith, and daughter-in-law, Kiersten; her sisters, Tonya Lucas and Lynn Dalton and husband, Bill; her nieces, Cierra Stamey-Lucas (Dom), Kelsey Huffman (Jon) and Sydney Lucas; her grandnieces and grandnephews, Zeek, Autumn, Evelyn, Raelynn and Silas; a menagerie of granddogs; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and many close friends whom Chrissy considered family.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers of Gaston County Hospice, Carolina Caring, for the kindness, comfort and care they provided to Chrissy and her family.
