Gastonia – It has pleased the Lord to take home Claire Peters Hoogmoed, 86, who passed away on February 12, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Passaic, New Jersey in the spring of 1934 to the late Paul H. Peters and Johanna Van Eck Peters. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Cornelius "Neil" Densel Hoogmoed and brother, Leonard Peters.
Mrs. Hoogmoed was active in her community for years; serving as a member of Providence Presbyterian Church and active in the Azalea Garden Club. She also was a volunteer for Gaston Hospice.
Survivors include her son Dr. Ronald Hoogmoed and wife Ruth of Ada, Michigan; her daughters, Nancy Everhart and husband Terry of Charlotte, N.C. and Joanne DeVall and husband Jonathan of Clover, S.C.; Grandchildren, David Hoogmoed and wife Leanna, Anastasia Hoogmoed and boyfriend Corey, Ryan Hoogmoed and wife Roberta, Rachel VanderBoon and husband Seth, Jessica Everhart Morgan and husband David, TJ Everhart and wife Caity, Dillon DeVall, Nicole DeVall and boyfriend Andrew; Great-grandchildren, Emerson Morgan; Sisters-in-law and Brother-in-law, Teddi Peters, Lena Southway, Elizabeth Okken, Joanne Okken, and Arthur Hoogmoed and wife Chris.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Providence Presbyterian Church, the pastors who faithfully visited her, and the staff at Morningside of Gastonia.
Visitation for family and friends will be 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 17th at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with service following at 11:00 a.m. The service will be officiated by Rev. Harper Price. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Garden of Prayer.
