Claude "Birdy" Pinkney Burdette

Claude “Birdy” Pinkney Burdette, 80, passed away peacefully at his residence on August 9, 2024 with his loving family by his side. 

 

He was born in Gaston County on January 29, 1944, to the late Jack and Pearl Burdette. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Brent Burdette; and sisters, Diane Pendleton and Jackie Taylor. 

 

Claude was a faithful servant of the Lord and always found ways to serve his church. He was a true jack of all trades and could do anything, he really was the best handyman ever. He enjoyed trout fishing, whistling, singing, and eating. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved him. 

 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Gail Ellis Burdette; daughter, Shelly Burdette; sister, Sherry Cotnam (Lee); granddaughter, Haley Landry (David); and three great-grandchildren, Luke, Claire, and Jacob. 

 

Family and friends will gather from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Maylo United Methodist Church, 1900 Spencer Mountain Road Gastonia NC 28054. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church with Reverend Mark Etchison officiating. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
