David Scott Rhea, a cherished brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 17, 2025, in Gastonia, NC, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 29, 1962, in Kings Mountain, NC, David's journey through life was marked by his warmth and kindness, earning him the affectionate nickname "Uncle Day Day" from his beloved family.

David proudly graduated from Kings Mountain High School and went on to earn a B.A. in Business from Western Carolina University. He not only enjoyed his time there, but also became a proud member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, fostering lifelong friendships and creating cherished memories.

Throughout his career, David showcased his dedication and passion across various fields. He worked diligently in banking and mortgage before working at A&E Warehouse and as an Associate for Strategies Unlimited, Inc. Most recently, he found immense joy in his role as a staff member of the Gastonia Ghost Peppers Baseball Club, a position that filled his heart with happiness and allowed him to share his love of the game with others.

David was known for his good-hearted nature and infectious humor, making everyone around him feel welcome and valued. His ability to connect with people was unmatched, and he had a gift for brightening the lives of those he encountered. Friends and family alike adored him, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving sisters, Kathy Rhea Bumgardner (Robey) of Belmont, NC, and Barbara Rhea Hoke (Tommy) of Lugoff, SC. His legacy continues through his nephews and nieces, Brandon Bumgardner of Bessemer City, Ashley Dickerson of Kannapolis, NC, Grey Hoke (Madison) of Columbia, SC, Jacob Hoke of Lugoff, SC, Matthew Rhea (Morgan) of Matthews, NC, Taylor Rhea of Charlotte, NC, and Regan Rhea of Matthews, NC. He also leaves behind cherished great-nephews, including Hunter Bumgardner (Grace) of Charlotte, NC; Maxwell, Maddox, and Maverick Dickerson of Kannapolis, NC; and Jaxson Rhea of Lake Wylie, SC. David was greatly loved by his many friends including Carl & Margot Plonk & Gracie Plonk Freeman. David was preceded in death by his parents, Bobbie and Clara Rhea and his loving wife, Wendy Rhea and his big brother, Ron Rhea.

David's celebration of life gathering will be held from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation in Gastonia, NC, on August 24, 2025. The family invites all who knew him to join in honoring his life and the joy he brought into the world.

As we bid farewell to David Scott Rhea, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. His spirit will remain in the hearts of all who loved him, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations to come.
