David Lee Whisnant

David Lee Whisnant, 78, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026 at Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, North Carolina, with his family by his side.

He was born in Mecklenburg County on August 26, 1947 to the late Plato “Slim” and Helen Montgomery Whisnant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Whisnant and his brothers, Roger Whisnant and Hubert Tanner.

David was a great athlete and was a star baseball player for the Pirates and was well known in Belmont sports. He will be remembered as a simple and humble man and leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Busha (Ronnie) and her children; brothers, Michael Whisnant (Linda) and Ronald Whisnant (Tracey); sisters-in-law, Carolyn Tanner and Novella Whisnant; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Cohen Elgin.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Gaston Memorial Park in the Matthew Section.
