David "Cowboy" Thomas Wilkes, 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 17, 2021 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Pinehurst, North Carolina on December 9, 1950 and is the son of the late Grantham Lee Wilkes, Sr. and Juanita Napier Wilkes.
"Cowboy" was a proud United States Army veteran where he served during the Viet Nam War.
He was a member of the Gaston Honor Guard where he assisted in providing Military Funerals for all Veterans in Gaston County and is a member of American Legion Post #144 Belmont, North Carolina.
He retired as a Master Mechanic with American Cyanamid Company.
He is survived by his sister, Kay Wilkes; nephew, Stephen Robbins and wife Gail.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the Veterans Cemetery, Salisbury with Military Honors by the North Carolina National Guard and the Gaston Honor Guard.
Inurnment will follow at the Veterans Cemetery, Salisbury.
"Cowboy" was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Grantham Lee Wilkes, Jr.; sister, Harriett Robbins.
