Della Fortenberry Childers

Della Fortenberry Childers, 60, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026 with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Cleveland County on June 18, 1965 to the late Joe and Reba Fortenberry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wynn Childers; and her sister, Cindy Ray.

Della was a member of Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church where she was the dedicated custodian for many years. She enjoyed being outside with her plants, visiting the mountains and Chimney Rock, and fishing when she could. Della also earned a bachelors degree from Cleveland Community College. Most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Nikki Childers (Jason O’Dell), Brittany Childers (James Wilson), Adrian Childers (Austin Kitchin), LaShea Brakefield (Dusty); siblings, Amanda Talley and Robyn Fortenberry; and her grandchildren, Claire, Gabby, Axell, and Thomas.

Family and friends will gather for visitation from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church, 433 N. Mountain Street Ext., Blacksburg, SC 29702, A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 pm with Pastor Michael Owen officiating.
