Dennis Michael McGahan

Dennis "Denny" M. McGahan, 79, formally of Greenfield, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on September 1 , 2026 at Caromont Regional Hospital in Gastonia, NC.

He is survived by his two devoted sons; Brian (with whom he lived) of Gastonia, NC, Kent and wife, Jodi, of Greenfield, MA; his sister, Jane McGahan of Greenfield,MA, and two grandchildren; Colin of Easthampton, MA and Lindsey of Greenfield, MA.

He is predeceased by his wife, Cheryl A. (Brooks) in 2013 and his parents, William E (1995) and Lucille B. (Willett) (2002) McGahan.

Denny cherished his family and appreciated his life-long friendships. He was a gregarious person who enjoyed meeting people and making new friends. He enjoyed his high school reunions (GHS Class of "64). He even organized a Green River Elementary School reunion during his 50th GHS class reunion.

He adored being grandpa to Colin and Lindsey when they were young. He was very proud watching their adventures growing up. Colin (and Jackie) and Lindsey couldn't have had a better cheerleader to their lives.

He was, of course, a fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins teams.

Denny proudly served in the U.S. Navy (1964-1967) after high school; stationed on the U.S.S. Boston out of the port of Boston. During his time the ship was deployed off of the coast of Spain in the Mediterranean for the search of the crashed US bombed with the nuclear weapons and later off the coast of Vietnam during his last six months of his enlistment. Later, in life, he traveled to several U.S.S. Boston Shipmates reunions.

After his service, he started as an ad salesman for the Town Crier in Greenfield then moved on as a salesman for WHAI Radio for 30 years. In 1996, he and Cheryl moved to South Carolina where he loved the beach and ocean, state and national parks and the warmer weather. After Cheryl passed, in 2017 he moved to North Carolina with his son, Brian. They traveled all over North Carolina and many other states, and finally surviving an epic adventure with his sister, Jane, through Utah national parks and the crown jewel, Yellowstone.

Services will be private with the family, A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
