Doris Joann Massey

Doris Joann Massey, 89, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026 at Peak Resources in Cherryville, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on June 1, 1937 to the late James Mack and Bernice Jones. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Benjamin Franklin “B.F.” Massey; and her brothers, J.M. Jones and Dean Jones.

Joann was a devoted member of Beech Avenue Baptist Church and Independent Baptist Tabernacle Church. She loved the Lord and served with her late husband as youth leaders at Beech Avenue Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing and going on day trips with her friends. Joann was known for her love of cooking and famous for her steak and gravy. Most of all, she loved her family and leaves many happy memories to be cherished.

She is survived by her daughter, Renee Massey Beaver (Scott); son, David Massey (Shannon); sister, Maxine Nann; grandchildren, Dusty Beaver (Susan), Alex Beaver, Katelin Massey, Natalie Lloyd (Chan), Shepherd Massey, and Zara Massey; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel with Pastor Tommy Carver officiating. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park in the War Memorial Section.

In honor of her vibrant spirit the family kindly request that attendees wear bright colors to the service. Let us celebrate her life with joy and color she brought to ours.
