Gastonia – Douglas Tyrone "Doug" Goodwin, 74, passed away on November 26, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
He was born January 9, 1947 in Lumberton, NC to the late Charles and Lula May Goodwin.
Doug was a proud driver instructor at Thurston Motor Lines, Charlotte. He also worked as a diesel mechanic. He enjoyed holidays and spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many and will be greatly missed.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years together, Mercy Morales Goodwin; his children, Tim (Jenny) Goodwin; Rusty Goodwin; Holly (Cassidy) Ware; and
Lea (Adam) Cloninger; 8 grandchildren, whom he adored and loved very much; Julian and Carter Register, Mason and Bryson Cloninger, Skylar Ware and Kegan Ware, Christian and Michael Goodwin, brothers, Jack (Glenda) Goodwin, and Bo Goodwin; niece and nephews, Jeff Goodwin, Missy Carpenter, Brad Goodwin and Scottie Goodwin; as well as many other extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Brother Devon Glass officiating.
