Dr. Steven Wesley "Wes" Anthony, Jr., a respected educator, author, and cherished companion, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. Born on January 29, 1978, in Gaston County, North Carolina, Wes was a man whose life was defined by his dedication to education, his love of family, and his vibrant, fun-loving spirit.
Wes’s journey of academic and professional achievement began with his graduation from Hunter Huss High School in 1996, followed by his studies at Appalachian State University. His pursuit of knowledge did not end there; Wes proudly earned several Master's degrees and a PHD, which marks his relentless commitment to personal and professional growth. He made a significant impact through his work at the American College of Education in Indianapolis, Indiana, where his dedication and leadership were recognized with a recent promotion to Administration.
Beyond his career, Wes was a man of many talents and interests. He authored several books and contributed as a writer to various newspapers, sharing his insights and stories with a wider audience. Known for his love of swimming, he generously taught swimming lessons, imparting important skills to others with patience and encouragement. Wes also had a passion for golf, sports(UNC basketball) music, darts, foosball and making memories with those he held close. “Some of it’s magic, some of it is tragic but I had a good life all the way” (Jimmy Buffett)
Those who knew Wes remember him as a fun-loving son, brother and friend. He shared a close bond with his sister, Ashley, they could always be found together getting into some sort of shenanigans. His family and friends will always cherish the memories and laughter that were had when they were together.
Wes was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vance and Sarah Anthony and Roy and Charlotte Whitesides, step-brother, Jeremy Huffstetler. He is survived by: his mother, Kathie Whitesides; his father and stepmother, Steve Anthony and Rhonda; his sister, Ashley Anthony (Billy Stogner), and nephew, Tripp Hayes; his girlfriend, Nicole "Coley" Green, and her children, Kadence Green and Harper Price; his aunt and uncle, Debbie and Alan Curry, daughter, Leslie; his step-brother Jonathan and wife Jennifer Huffstetler and their children, Eli, Eden, Emerson, and Elliott; as well as his best friend, James Brown, and many wonderful friends.
Wes’s life was sadly cut short by a sudden massive heart attack, but he passed surrounded by the love of his family and friends, a testament to the deep connections and affection that marked his life. His memory will live on through the legacies he leaves behind: the knowledge he shared, the stories he penned, and the joyful moments spent with those he loved.
