Gastonia – Michael "Dwain" Hinkle, 80 passed away from this earthly life on Sunday, May 15, 2022, with his loving family at his bedside.
He was born in Gastonia, NC on September 7, 1941, to the late Paul and Pauline Beaty Hinkle.
Dwain's career was in the freight business for many years. He retired from Consolidated Freightways and Custom Logistics after many years of dedicated service. He was married to the "love of his life, "Boots" for almost 60 years. He was a lifelong member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church where he was active and taught Sunday School for many years and spent much time studying the Bible. Dwain cherished his relationship with his Lord and Savior. He was a man of strong faith. He loved his loving wife, children and grandchildren immensely. He was a wonderful role model for his family and many others. Dwain was a loving family man, often spending time with his son and grandsons for many adventures. He also enjoyed woodworking and bird hunting. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones who will look forward to seeing him again in heaven.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of almost 60 years, Lula Mae Hawkins "Boots" Hinkle; his son, Paul Hinkle (Catherine); daughter, Wendy Schmidt (Scott); his wonderful grandchildren, Jarrett Schmidt and John Michael Schmidt (Hannah); sisters, Carol Hoffman (Tommy), Jewel Thomas (Eddie), Kathy Randel (Jack); several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hinkle will lie in state from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28054.
The FAMILY will not be present during this time.
Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Gaston Memorial Park, Hillcrest 2 Extension with Reverend Richard Brown officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Pallbearers will be Jarrett Schmidt, John Michael Schmidt, Barth Hoffman, Frank Stewart, C.J. Bell, and Danny Camp, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sandy Plains Baptist Church 5323 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28056, or Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.
