Edith Short Sisk passed away peacefully at home on October 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 31, 1941, at Garrison General Hospital in Gastonia, North Carolina, Edith lived a life marked by faith, family, service, and genuine care for others. A true Southern Belle, she was known for her grace, elegance, and loving spirit.
A 1959 graduate of Ashley High School, Edith built a life defined by hard work, generosity, and devotion to those she loved. Alongside her husband, Jerry, she was co-owner and vice president of HVAC Service Corp., helping grow and lead their family business. She also enjoyed participating in Gaston Country Club Women’s Golf and Cramer Mountain Women’s Golf.
Edith served her community through the Gaston County Republican Women, as an election poll worker, and through P.E.O. Chapter K, the Pilot Club of Kannapolis, and Crisis Assistance Ministry in Gastonia.
As a member of City Church, Edith was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and her faith was the firm foundation of every aspect of her life. She trusted in the Lord through every season and sought to reflect His love through the way she cared for her family, served others, and lived each day with grace and compassion. Throughout her life she served in various church ministries and found great joy in worship, fellowship, and encouraging those around her. Her relationship with Jesus shaped who she was and gave her strength, peace, and hope. She lived her faith sincerely and consistently, leaving behind a beautiful example of what it means to love God and love others.
Above all, Edith loved her family. She was the devoted wife of 55 years to Gerald “Jerry” Sisk and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Classy and elegant, she carried herself with grace and style. Although she appreciated the finer things in life, her greatest treasures were the people she loved. Her family brought her immeasurable joy and were among her proudest accomplishments. To her family, she was a source of love, wisdom, comfort, and strength—a true blessing whose memory will be cherished for generations.
Edith is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry Sisk; her daughter, Cynthia McDonald (Rob); and her son, Larry Sisk (Robin). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Brooke Tyndall (Jonathan), Tyler Huffstetler (Derek), Lauren Arnold (Aaron), Joshua Sisk (Jean), Brent Thomas (Nicole) and Elliott Thomas (Alma). Her love continues through her precious great-grandchildren: Emma, Piper, Noah, Jacob, Jessie, Jordyn, Amelia, Edith, Cash, and Connor. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Short, and her sister, Joyce Nolen.
Edith was preceded in death by her father, Roy Short; her mother, Evelyn Gurley Short; her brother, Roy Short Jr.; her sister, Mary Lee Peeler; and her great-aunt, Minnie Lee Peedin.
A special place in Edith’s life was held by her devoted caregiver, Amanda Bray, who lovingly cared for her for more than a year. The bond they shared was deeply special, and the family will always be grateful for the love and care Amanda gave both Edie and Jerry. She will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
A visitation will be held on [date and time] at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, North Carolina 28054. A Celebration of Life will follow at [time] in the chapel, with Pastor Dickie Spargo officiating.
Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the years we were blessed to share with Edith. We will remember her elegance, faith, love of family, and unmistakable grace. Most of all, we will remember the love she gave so freely and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. She will be dearly missed, forever loved, and always our Grammy.
