Edward Eugene Burris

Charlotte – Edward Eugene “Gene” Burris, Jr., 83, passed away June 10, 2022, at his residence.

He was born in Cabarrus County on July 2, 1938, to the late Edward Eugene Burris and Myrtle Virginia Cline Burris. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his step son, Richard Bryan Blankenship.

Gene enjoyed bird watching, traveling and flying; he was an excellent pilot. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Gene retired from Exxon Mobil with over 30 years as an auditor. Gene was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Left to cherish Gene’s memories is his loving wife of 42 years, Karen Abernathy Burris; His son, Edward E.  “Eddie” Burris, III and fiancée, Brent Burroughs. stepdaughter, Lisa Michelle Witherspoon and husband, John Mark; grandchildren, Alexandria Patrice Witherspoon and Bryan Ashton Witherspoon; brother Donald Burris and wife Glenda, sister Brenda Jones.
