Freddy Dewey Broyles, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, departed this world suddenly on July 7, 2026, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina. Born on March 29, 1951, in Clairfield, Tennessee , Freddy’s seventy-five years were woven with love, laughter, and dedication to the people and places that mattered most to him.
Freddy’s story began in the heart of Gaston County. It was there that his journey unfolded alongside his parents, James and Hazel Robinson Broyles, both of whom preceded him in death. In this close-knit community, Freddy built a life rich in family and connection—qualities that would come to define the way he lived and loved every day.
He walked through life’s milestones with his devoted wife, Aleta Herring Broyles, by his side. Their partnership, marked by deep affection and steadfast support, was a beacon of love and companionship. Together, they raised two children: Tony Daniel Broyles and Melanie Dawn Broyles, both of whom carry forward their father’s spirit of kindness and strength. Freddy’s legacy shines especially bright in the eyes of his granddaughter, Zoey Autumn Long, who brought him joy and pride beyond measure.
Freddy’s family formed the fabric of his life, and he was cherished as a brother and brother-in-law, too. He is survived by his brothers Lonnie Broyles and John Broyles, sisters-in-law Patty and Rose, and his sister Brenda Broyles. Though he has now rejoined his dearly missed siblings—Billy Broyles, Harold Broyles, Ruby Turner, Shirley Broyles, and Delores Thompson—in peace, Freddy’s memory endures vibrantly in the hearts of those still here.
His sudden departure leaves a space impossible to fill, and yet the love he gave so freely ensures that his spirit will remain alive in countless memories. Freddy was a grounding presence, a comforting voice, and a source of wisdom within his family. His laughter warmed family gatherings and his steady guidance made every challenge surmountable. Friends and family alike will remember his generosity, quick wit, unwavering loyalty, and the gentle strength that guided him throughout life.
A time for visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28054. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 PM at the same location with his sister-in-law officiating, Mary Jane Rogers. Freddy will be laid to rest at Hollywood Cemetery, Broad Street, Gastonia, NC 28054.
Those who knew Freddy Broyles are left with heartfelt gratitude for the years spent with him and the enduring lessons of love, faith, and devotion he leaves behind. His life, though concluded here, continues to inspire those privileged enough to call him family or friend.
