Garry Wayne Walker

Garry Wayne Walker, 72, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Ashe County, North Carolina on January 14, 1951 to the late James and Joyce Walker. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma Walker; daughter, Felesa Walker; brothers, Dennis and Jamie Walker; and his sister Kay Harmon.

Garry loved being outdoors and had a passion for trout fishing and never missed opening day. He was an avid sports fan and his favorite teams were Alabama college football, Atlanta Braves, Red Skins, and the Carolina Tar Heels. Above all, he loved his family and he leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Rita Carver; sisters, Phyllis Paul and Gail Brown; grandchildren, Brian Carver (Emily), Joshua Rick, Brandy Walker, and John Sessoms; and his great-grandchildren, Madeline, Emily, and C.J.; nephew, Michael Grant (Diedre) and their daughter Abigail.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.
