Gary Dwayne Byrd

Listen to Obituary

  • Gary passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Gary was born in Gaston County on April 17, 1992 and is the son of David Byrd and Rita Whisnant Byrd. He is preceded in death by his brother, Terry Byrd who passed in 2022; his grandparents, Dixie and Howard Byrd, Carl and Loraine Whisnant Arrendale.

Gary was one of a kind — known for his goofy, silly personality and his ability to make people laugh at any moment. He had a gift for saying the most bizarre things at just the right time, and those who knew him well will forever hear his humor echoing in their memories. Laughter followed him wherever he went. Gary loved the outdoors, especially bass fishing, where he found peace and joy. He was also a true basketball fan, growing up idolizing his favorite player, Allen Iverson, and carrying that love for the game throughout his life. Whether watching a game or talking basketball, his passion was unmistakable.Above all else, Gary loved his family. He cherished being surrounded by his immediate family, spending time together, joking, laughing, and creating moments that will be held close forever. His love for them was deep, genuine, and unwavering. Though his time here was far too short, Gary lived loudly, laughed often, and loved deeply. His spirit, humor, and heart will continue to live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love held by all who knew him.

Gary is survived by his parents, David Byrd and Rita Whisnant Byrd; one loving sister, Lace Poarch; six loving brothers, Steven Poarch, David Poarch, Bobby Poarch, Jimmy Poarch, Danny Byrd, ; three nieces, Ava Byrd, Shyla Hunt, Marissa Poarch; three nephews, Luke Poarch, Michael Hunt, Talon Poarch.
