Gene Farrow Armstrong, born on January 17, 1940, in Ft. Mill, York County, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his residence on February 1, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 86 years old.
A proud veteran, Gene served in the United States Navy for six years, achieving the rank of E-5. His dedication and service to his country were a source of immense pride throughout his life. Following his military service, Gene embarked on a fruitful career in information technology, where he worked as an IT Manager with various hospitals. He dedicated 25 exemplary years to CaroMont Regional Medical Center before retiring, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and excellence in his field.
Beyond his professional achievements, Gene cherished the moments spent with his church family and friends at Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Dallas, North Carolina, where he held various roles of service. His hobbies and interests included serving on the Kansas City Barbecue Society as a Master Barbecue Judge and being a Certified Steak Judge. Gene was also active in the National Society of Sons of the American Revolution, where he served as Past Registrar and Genealogist for the Col William Bratton Chapter. His deep-rooted passion for genealogy earned him the Liberty Medal with Two Stars and recognition as a Charter Member of the Armstrong Clan Society, Inc. An Eagle Scout, Gene’s commitment to community and family was unwavering. He was an avid gardener, with an extraordinary green thumb. He truly loved to share his tomatoes, vegetables and flowers with any and everyone.
Gene's life's proudest accomplishments were his loving wife, Muriel Dixon Armstrong, and their extended family. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, sons M. Scott Armstrong (Angelia) and C. Bryan Armstrong (Lori); daughters Shannon Jarvis (Jonathan) and Brooke Scoggins; daughter-in-law Barb Armstrong; grandchildren Garrett Armstrong (Rochelle), Emily Armstrong (Zach), Ethan Armstrong (Hailey), Heather Rhodes (Ben), Courtney Wolf (Dakota), Alec Armstrong (Emily), Olivia Armstrong (Austin), Jacob Armstrong, Natalie Gomez, Mateo Gomez, Marcos Gomez, Taylor Scoggins, Rebecca Klein (Alex), Ashley Zander (Patrick), Jaci Hillers (John), and Evan Stone; as well as great-grandchildren Marlana Armstrong, Ellisyn Armstrong, Lorelei Armstrong, Adeline Armstrong, Judah Rhodes, Asher Rhodes, Denver Wolf, Baylor Wolf, Navy Wolf, Noa Wolf, Andi Armstrong, Ellie Klein, Kai Klein, Emmy Hillers, Bray Hillers, and Beckham Hillers. He also leaves behind a brother, Ernest Armstrong (Mary).
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest S. Armstrong and Elizabeth Prior Armstrong, and his beloved son, Gene Farrow Armstrong, Jr.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, located at 103 W Church St, Dallas, NC 28034, starting at 11:00 AM, followed by a visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
