Gerald Franklin Davis

Gastonia- Gerald Franklin Davis, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 22, 2021, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. Gerald was born in Gaston County on December 11, 1934, and is the son of the late John P. Davis and Lydia Payne Davis and was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Frances Killian Davis: step-sons, Steven and Marty Thomas, brothers, Harold and John Davis.
He and Frances were faithful and longtime members of Chapel Grove Baptist Church where together they served on numerous committees.
Gerald was an avid fisherman; he loved the Dallas Cowboys and was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. After serving over 16 years in the Air Force, Gerald worked for W.D. Lee Machine Company and Bessemer City Water Plant.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
Gerald leaves to cherish his memories, three sons, Joseph Davis and wife Angela, William Davis, Gerald F. Davis, Jr. and wife Rita; daughter, Lydia D. Stewart; step-son, Ronnie Thomas; six grandchildren whom he adored, Allen Poteat, Keith Frix, Jenna Landacre, Melissa Buckley, Sterling Davis Jr., and Samantha Whiteside; 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive family and friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26th at Chapel Grove Baptist Church, 716 Camp Rotary Road, Gastonia with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Seth Barkley and Rev. Roger Overton officiating.
Entombment will follow at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City with Military Honors to be presented by the United States Air Force, Shaw Air Force Base, and the Gaston Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Sterling Davis, Jr, Allen Poteat, Kole Poteat, Keith Frix, Austin Frix, and Dylan Frix.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his church that he adored; Chapel Grove Baptist Church, 716 Camp Rotary Road, Gastonia, NC 28052
