Glenda Armstrong
1935 - 2022

Gastonia – Glenda Mae Black Armstrong, 86, a native of Gaston County, married the love
of her life, Paul E. Armstrong has gone to her heavenly home. She passed peacefully surrounded by family and her friends at Courtland Terrace on January 19, 2022.

Glenda also known as "Mae" to some was a long-time member of Flint Groves Baptist Church. She worked in downtown Gastonia for many years at the Diana Shop, Mark of Fashion, Scotty's Drug Store, and retired from Smith Drug's in 2016 on their closing day! Our mother loved fashion & people! She loved decorating for every holiday but Christmas was her favorite! In later years, she would leave one tree up year-round. She loved her snowman tree and all her snowmen and made sure we all had some! She loved wearing leopard print, loved the color yellow and sunflowers! She had an infectious beautiful smile that would bring a smile to all around her! Glenda was the most loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be greatly missed! She always had a "Hey Beautiful" compliment for you. Her favorite comeback when you complimented her was, "when you got it, you got it!" Mother, you are our "Sunshine & we love you a Bushel & a peck always!

In addition to her parents, Woodrow and Pauline Hamm, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, and sister, Frieda Saunders.

Survivors include her wonderful family, her children, Paula (John) Potts of Apex, NC; Cindy (Jack) Lear; Mark (Lorie) Armstrong all of Gastonia; grandchildren, Jason, Lindsey, Brittany, Taylor, Hannah, Dawson, Hayden, and Gina; great-grandsons, Jett, Landon, Van, Ellis, Luther and Wade; and numerous nieces and nephews; her sister, Loretta (Gene) Moody; her brother, Donald (Sarah) Hamm; special sister-in-love, Dot Armstrong Powell; and dear friend, Glenda Norris.

A special heartfelt thank you to the staff of Courtland Terrace who have cared and loved on our mother for the last 2 ½ years. We appreciate each and every one of you! A very special thank you to our sister, Cindy, who has been the best lead advocate and caregiver to our mother.
