Glenda Mae Russell

Belmont-Glenda Mae Russell, 80 of Belmont NC passed away peacefully on Friday, September 1, 2023.

Glenda was born May 17, 1943, in Charlotte, NC to Rev. Henry Glenn Russell and Willie Caldwell Russell, both deceased. She had two siblings, Judy Trantham; sister, and Glenn Steven Russell; brother who both preceded her in death.

Glenda is survived by her sister in law, Barbara Russell, her brother in law, Randy Trantham, several nieces and nephews and a lifetime of friends.

Glenda graduated from Belmont High School in 1961. She retired from Duke Power where she had a very successful career as a training coordinator and developer. She mentored students in the Gaston County area which led to her and her colleagues receiving the Power in Education Award presented to Duke Power and her team by George W. Bush in 1991.

Glenda was a devoted and loyal person to all who knew her. She loved to travel and meet new people. For over 25 years, she attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and took trips to Daytona Beach with her favorite travel companion. She loved beach music and shagging at Ocean Annie’s and 2001 in Myrtle Beach, SC while on her Girls Trips. She was the life of any party whether it be a black tie event or sitting on the screen porch at the beach with her friends. Glenda could always take the lime light with her wonderful stories and life experiences that she loved to share with all of her friends. She was a one of a kind, classy lady that will be missed by all that knew her.

Glenda did not want a funeral service. Instead, she requested a celebration of her life for friends and family which will be held at a later date.

“There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains.”

Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC (704) 864-5144 is serving the family.
