Gordon Crayton Patterson

Gastonia – Gordon Crayton Patterson, 97 went on to be with the Lord on October 6, 2022. He stepped into eternity surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 22, 1925 in Andrews, North Carolina to the late George Crayton Patterson and Elba Owens Patterson.  In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a son, Eric Patterson, daughters, Karen Kalbach and Gretchen Winter; his siblings, James Dilbard, Joseph Willard, William Wayne, Eugene Patterson, Corine Harkins, and Joyce Hope.Gordon retired from Firestone Mills with over 41 years of dedicated service. He worked for over 7 months in Georgia building air crafts B29s.Gordon was a wise man who never wanted to be rich or famous. He never wanted attention or greatness. He gave honestly and respect and asked only for the same in return. He believed in right and wrong, working hard and earning what you have and to do unto others what you have done to you as taught in the bible. Gordon was a quiet man of few words but those words were worth hearing. He offered kindness and caring and always appreciated when it was given back. He often expressed who fortunate he was with the family and friends in his life. He shared his blessings in many ways including the food he grew in his garden.He also loved having fun, including sports. He was an avid golfer and loved to bowl and was always trying to get others to participate with him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Ruth Wright Patterson; a daughter, Jane Edwards and husband Tommy; sisters, Evelyn Willis and Betty Ruth Buchanan and a brother, Carroll Patterson; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 10, 2022 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home.A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with the releasing of the doves.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, P.O.
