Gwendolyn "Yvonne" Turner

December 4, 1948 — August 27, 2021

Gwendolyn Yvonne Smith Turner, 72, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 27, 2021 with her loving family by her side. She was born on December 4, 1948 in Hurtsboro, Alabama and is the daughter of the late William Henry Smith, Sr. and Louise Marie McCall. Mrs. Turner was a Godly Lady and loved her Lord and Savior.

Gwendolyn was an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, Davis Park Road, Gastonia. She loved to crochet, dance and sing. In her spare time she also loved playing cards, Ms.PacMan, working puzzles, crosswords, playing on her tablet and watching her "Soaps". Gwen had an unwavering relationship with Her Lord and attended services regularly and studied her Bible at home. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She retired from the Data Processing Department of Chubb & Sons Insurance Agency. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She will truly be missed by so many.

Gwendolyn leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, MiChelle Deniece Turner-Moreno and husband Ray Moreno; three sons, James W. Turner III and fiancé Jessie Rogers, Ronald "Ronnie" Turner and special friend, Arlene Taylor, Joseph Cameron; three brothers, William Smith, Ernest Smith, Ivory Smith; four sisters, Gloria Pritchard, Annette Smith, Glenda Smith, Cynthia Ross; 2 (Biological) grandchildren, Tierra Laureal (Tweet) and Mariah Che'Ron (Pumpkin) Turner. A host of other grandchildren she loved and cared for as well: Angelique (Angel) Moreno; Ezekiel (Zeke), Zacchaeus (Zach), TeCia Shook and Chrissie Rogers; three (Biological) great grandchildren Dorion, Dior, and last but not least, her name sake: Dorielle "Yvonne" Turner.
And there are a bounty of other great grandchildren that she loved and cared for that will mourn her passing as well: Maverick and Jocelyn Shook; Naima (Nana),
Leilani (Lei), Meir (ManMan) and Novahn (Mister) Moreno.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 25 years, James W. Turner II; 5 brothers, John Brown, Rob Brown, Kenny Brown, George Brown, Patrick Smith; one sister, Denine Smith.

The family will receive family and friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2021 in the Chapel of Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Lawing officiating.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to their friends and extended family as well as the congregation of the Kingdom's Hall of Jehovah's Witness, Davis Park Road, Gastonia, Bill Rhinehart, and the staff of Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home for their love and care during these difficult times.

Due to the Covid Pandemic, Masks are suggested.

Interment will be private and at a later date.

Memorials are requested to be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 2250 Davis Park Road, Gastonia, North Carolina 28052.
