Harvey Michael Ghantt

Gastonia – Harvey Michael “Monk” Ghantt, 73, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Gaston County on April 8, 1949 to the late Harvey Samuel Ghantt and Elsie Faye Ghantt.

Monk was a Vietnam veteran of the US Army. He played in show bands and was a member of the Spontanes and Fantastic Shakers. In 2014 he was entered into the Beach Music Hall of Fame. He also loved to fish and spend time at the beach. Most of all he loved spending time with his friends and his fur baby, Tyson.

Left to cherish Monk’s memory is his daughter, Kori, and her children, Kalin and Kylie;

Son, Shane; brothers, Edward Wayne Ghantt, Darrell Bruce Ghantt and Wesley Ghantt; sisters, Diane “DeeDee” Combs, Sandra Michelle Ghantt; several nieces and nephews; and his fur baby Tyson; and many wonderful friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, September 9, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home.
