Helen Tucker Braswell, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at her residence on July 11, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on September 18, 1936, in Union County, North Carolina, and dedicated her ninety years to faith, family, and kindness.

Helen’s life was deeply rooted in Union County, where she was born to C.B. Tucker and Sarah Mae Allen Tucker, both of whom preceded her in death, her husband of 61 years, John R. Braswell, Jr. and a daughter, Lori Bryant, a grandson, Matthew Bisanar. her brothers, Coit Basil Tucker and Earl Franklin Tucker, Helen fostered a sense of connection and responsibility that would define the entirety of her life.

Throughout her years, Helen’s devotion to her loved ones was unwavering. She was the devoted wife of John R. Braswell, Jr., with whom she built a nurturing home filled with love and warmth. Although John preceded her in death, the legacy they created together continues in the lives of their children and grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her loving daughter, Jeanne Smith, and Jeanne’s husband, Donnie Smith; and her devoted son, John Braswell, III, and his wife, Jayne, Grandchildren, Rebecca Boston (Duane), Brandy Braswell, Stephen Holmes (Samantha), and Sheltyn Lynn; and great-grandchildren, Lane Bisanar, Aaron Wolcott (Summer), Nick Bisanar (Piper), Braxton Braswell, Carter Cathey, Corbin Cathey, Maddox Cathey, Maverick Cathey, Willow Bisanar , Claire Holmes, and Luke Holmes.

Her embrace extended to each member of her family, and she delighted in moments spent with them. Helen was also the loving mother of Lori Bryant, who passed before her, and the proud grandmother of Matthew Bisanar, whose memory she carried in her heart.

Family meant everything to Helen. She was steadfast through the joys and sorrows shared among her kin, possessing a quiet strength that reassured all who knew her. Her presence at family gatherings and her thoughtful words were treasured by her children and extended family, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

Helen’s life was characterized by grace, dignity, and compassion. She held her loved ones close—even as she mourned those who had gone before—and found comfort in the enduring bonds of family and friendship. Her warmth and gentle spirit left an indelible mark upon all who were fortunate to know her.

Services to honor Helen’s life will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026. The family will receive friends at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation, located at 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28054, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at the same location from 1:00 PM tin the Chapel, with burial to take place at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, NC 28054, at 2:00 PM.

Helen Tucker Braswell’s memory will be held dear by her surviving family and all who knew her. Her enduring love, wisdom, and kindness continue to light the way for those she leaves behind.
