Herman Erastus Beaty, 97, a dedicated patriot soldier, loving husband, father, and grandpaw, passed away peacefully at his residence on October 16, 2023. He was born on January 20, 1926, in Gaston County, North Carolina.
Herman's remarkable career spanned several decades. He retired from Burlington Industries in Cramerton, specifically the Mayflower Plant, after 35 years of dedicated service. After his retirement from Burlington Industries, Herman worked for Freightliner in Mt. Holly for over 10 years. He approached his work with diligence and commitment, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism. Herman lived in the same house in Cramerton for 73 years.
Herman served with honor in the U.S. Army during World War II and took great pride in defending his country. As a testament to his patriotism, he was an esteemed member of the Last Man Club of Gaston County. The Gaston County Honor Guard will pay tribute to Herman by offering him military honors.
Being part of a close-knit community was essential to Herman throughout his life. As the oldest male member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church, where he was a lifetime member, his presence and devotion were greatly cherished by all who knew him.
In addition to his professional achievements and military service, Herman found joy in various hobbies and interests. Woodworking allowed him to express his creativity and create treasured pieces that will be cherished by loved ones for generations to come. Camping with family and friends brought him immense pleasure as he relished the beauty of nature and the warmth of their company. Moreover, Herman possessed a gift for storytelling that captivated all who listened.
Above all else, Herman held deep love for his family. His daughters held a special place in his heart and brought immeasurable joy to his life. Likewise, his grandsons and great-grandchildren were a source of immense pride and happiness.
Herman's parents Carl McAlwine Beaty and Francis Lula Moss Beaty, his beloved wife of over 60 years, Evelyn Smith Beaty, and his siblings Carl Beaty, Marcus Beaty, Pauline Hinkle, and Hazel Hart, and his son-in-law, Billy King preceded him in death. While their absence is deeply felt, Herman's memory lives on through his surviving family and friends. He is survived by three loving daughters: Karen King of Gastonia, Theresa Wright (Billy) of Kings Mountain, and Starr Dixon (Greg) of Gastonia and special son, Nicky Isenhour of Cramerton. His wonderful grandchildren Chevis King, Nathan King (Angie), Jobe Waters (Lorie), and Jude Dixon. Additionally, he leaves behind great-grandchildren Ethan King, Zoey Bell, Trevor Jeffers, Blake Waters, Beaty Waters, and Tessa Waters.A visitation will be held to honor Herman's memory on October 19, 2023, starting at 12:30 PM at Sandy Plains Baptist Church located at 5323 Union Rd in Gastonia. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service at the same location starting at 2:00 PM with Pastor Chris Howell and Reverend Richard Brown officiating. Friends and family are invited to attend both events to pay their respects to a remarkable man whose life has left an indelible mark. Interment with military honor will follow in the church cemetery.
