Gene Jones
1937-2021
Dallas – Howell Eugene "Gene" Jones, 84 went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 28, 2021, at Atrium Health-Charlotte after suffering a stroke on Tuesday.
He was born in Gaston County on February 22, 1937, to the late Ernest and Lilly Mae Rabb Jones. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Shirley Page Jones.
Gene was a Godly man and believed in helping people. He also enjoyed spending time at The Dallas Fire Department where he served as their Chaplain. Gene served The Dallas Fire Department for over 57 years; they named a fire truck in his honor.
Gene was a loving husband, father, and Papaw. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his fire department family. He worked at Gaston County Animal Control and later transferred to the Dallas Prison where he worked as a Control Officer and retired after many years of dedicated service. He also served as a Dispatcher for the Town of Dallas Police. He was a member of Dallas Church of God and adored his church; especially Pastor D.R. Shortridge and Reverend Matthew Shortridge.
He is survived by his loving family, son David (Leah) Jones, daughters, Dorothy (Craig) Hall, Donna (Donald) Mulwee, Patricia (Steve) Frisbee; grandchildren, Joseph (Carly) Toney, Matthew (Shelly) Toney, Zachary (Kala) Mulwee, Casey (Cliff) Williams, Megan (Wade) Holder, Jacob Byrd, and Justin Jones; 12 great-grandchildren; and many wonderful friends, especially his lifelong friend, Dean Carpenter and Pastor D.R. Shortridge, Chief Earl Withers III, and Chief Steve Lambert; they all held a special place in his heart.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2021, at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Dorothy Hall, 2477 Glyncastle Way, Gastonia, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 prior to his service
A Celebration of Life service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6th at Dallas Church of God with Pastor D.R. Shortridge and Reverend Matthew Shortridge officiating.
Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Dallas Fire Department.
