Hughlon Herman Nicholson

Hughlon Herman Nicholson, 87, entered into Heaven on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at his home with his loving family by his side.  Hughlon was born in Towns County, Georgia on July 26, 1936 and is the son of the late Francis Sylvester Nicholson and Sarah Edith Owens Nicholson. 

He was a graduate of Lowell High School.  He was the former Co-Owner with his beloved wife, Shelby, and John and Patricia Graham of Graham’s Fish Fry.  He will truly be missed by so many. Hughlon was a strong leader of his family and strived to share his faith and values with family, friends, and loved ones. He was well known, loved,  and respected in the community. Hughlon enjoyed watching and helping coach his son, grandsons, and great-grandsons. He never met a stranger and really enjoyed time socializing at practices and games. Hughlon taught his grandchildren to hunt and fish and loved taking them camping and to his cabin.

The family sends their sincerest thanks and love to Hughlon’s caregiver’s, including his devoted family and Carolina Caring services,  whose kindness and compassion were so appreciated.

Survivors include his  three loving daughters, Karen Warren (Ronnie), Janet Terry, Kris Simonds; loving son, Ken Nicholson (Jennifer) and his bonus son, Chris Wooten; seven grandchildren whom he  adored, Paige Rhinehart (Charley), Brooke Warren, Austen Gantt (Devin), Ashley Rudisill (Ben), Lydia Nicholson, Aaron Simonds (Maddie), Karley Simonds; great grandchildren, Will Rhinehart, Peyton Rhinehart, Caleb Payseur, Lexi Mathis, Colby Gantt, Houston Rudisill, Preston Rudisill, Reagan Rudisill; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive family and friends from 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday,  May 20th at Union Road Church, 2315 Union Road. Gastonia, North Carolina with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 20th at Union Road Church with Pastor Lee Claypoole officiating.

Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park in the John Section with the Releasing of the Doves.

Pallbearers will be, Caleb Payseur, Will Rhinehart, Randy Graham, Reggie Graham, Rodney Graham, Ronnie Warren, Mike Terry, and Darryl Hunnicutt.

Hughlon was preceded in death by his parents;  his wife of 65  years, Shelby Jean Graham Nicholson; grandson, Jay Simonds; siblings, Dallas Sprinkles, Claudine Hunnicutt, Frances Hunnicutt. Cline Nicholson, Furman Nicholson, Roberta Huffstickler, Dorothy Hunt, Willeane Parker; son-in-law, Andrew Simonds, sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and  John Graham.
