Ivan Lee Chenault

Gastonia - Ivan Lee Chenault, 77, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 at the Robin Johnson House peacefully with his loving family by his side.  He was born on June 15, 1945 in Herrin, Illinois and was the son of the late Wyvan Chenault and Cleo Rodden Wyant. 

Ivan was a retired veteran of the United States Navy with 25 years of service. Ivan served in the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf Conflict.  He was a Security Officer in the Healthcare Business with 30 years of dedicated service.  Ivan was a member of Gateway Free Will Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for over 30 years. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother. Ivan loved his family and he enjoyed watching Fox News, reading, history, and especially western movies.

Ivan is survived by his children, Jennifer Herman and husband John, John Chenault, Kim and husband Pastor Darin Gibbs, Melissa; one brother, William Chenault; grandchildren, Levi Whitlow, Moriah Whitlow, Anna Whitlow, Makenna Gibbs, Julianna Gibbs, Olivia Gibbs, and Lyla Gibbs; and one great grandchild, Layla Whitlow.

The family will receive friends from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00p.m., Thursday, March 23 at First Free Will Baptist Church, 2316 Union Road. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Darin Gibbs officiating. Full Military Honor will follow at the church.
