Jackie Ray Martin

Jackie Ray Martin, was a very gentle and quiet soul who always had a smile on his face. 

On the evening of Monday, October 3, 2022 Jackie passed away after complications from an illness while being attended to by familiar staff members at the at Atrium of Cleveland County in Shelby, NC. Jackie was 69 years old.

Jackie was born on June 1, 1953 in Kings Mountain, NC to William and Bertha Martin. Jackie was a long-time employee of Gaston Memorial Park in the Cemetery Maintenance Department.  Jackie is remembered by staff and coworkers as a hard worker who enjoyed being outside.

Jackie would recount being fortunate enough to meet a kind, beautify women who he eventually married; Sharron Cagle Smith. Sadly, Sharron Martin passed away on June 7, 2015. Jackie will be laid to rest with his beloved Sharron at Gaston Memorial Park.

Jackie is preceded in death by his late wife Martha “Tweety” Martin. Together they had four children. Tragically, Martha “Tweety” Martin was taken on February 29, 1979, at the young age of 22 after her battle with cancer. Jackie is, also, preceded in death by his father, William, and his mother, Bertha, and sister-in-law, Jeanette.

He is survived by his son, Bobby and wife Stephanie; His daughter Sherry and partner Juan; daughter Crystal and husband James; his son Jay and family; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  

In addition to his children and grandchildren, Jackie is survived by his sister Pam Woodall and her husband Randy; his brother Kenneth and wife Michelle; his brother Dean and wife Bonnie; his brother William; along with several nieces and nephews.
