James "Jimmy" Douglas French

James "Jimmy" Douglas French, a beloved member of community, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas, North Carolina. Born on June 8, 1945, in Gaston County, North Carolina, Jimmy was the son of Herman Douglas and Louise Hawkins French.

Jimmy dedicated many years of his life working as an electrician for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education for many years. One of Jimmy's favorite pastimes was visiting flea markets. He found great joy in uncovering unique treasures while exploring the market.  He also enjoyed traveling with his family to the mountains.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria Sumner French, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Their bond served as an inspiration to all who knew them, a testament to the enduring power of love and commitment. He also leaves behind his son, Mark French and fiancée, Bonnie Cloninger, and his daughter, Kim Williamson, and her husband Richard. Jimmy's legacy lives on through his wonderful grandsons Brandon and fiancée, Molly Tuschen and Brent Williamson, who brought immense pride and joy to his life. Also, his sister-in-law, Barbara Carr.

In memory of Jimmy, Celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023 in the Chapel at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Black officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Mausoleum at Evergreen "A Quiet Place".

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cancer Services of Gaston County, 306 S. Columbia Street, Gastonia, NC 28054
