James "Jimmy" Harrison Messick

James "Jimmy" Harrison Messick, a man who dedicated almost 50 years of his life to service with Amp, Inc. which later became Tyco-Electronics, has peacefully passed away on February 17, 2024, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. His legacy and impact will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on March 27, 1944, in Gaston County, North Carolina, Jimmy's life was marked by hard work, dedication, and a warm sense of humor that endeared him to all who crossed his path. He was known for his caring nature and was always ready with a joke to bring smiles to the faces around him.

Jimmy's passion for helping others extended beyond his professional life. As an EMT with Gaston Life Saving Crew for many years, he touched the lives of many in their moments of greatest need. His proudest accomplishments were often tied to these selfless acts of service that defined his character.

Outside of work, Jimmy found joy in tinkering with small engines and traveling the world. He took great pleasure in taking care of his rentals and exploring new destinations whenever he could. His adventurous spirit inspired those around him to seek out new experiences and embrace the wonders of the world.

In his final moments, Jimmy was surrounded by his loving daughters, Sandra Allen (Tommy Wade), and Stephanie Maples, His family meant everything to him, and their presence provided comfort as he transitioned from this world.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Allen (Tommy Wade), and Stephanie Maples, step-son, Alex Wiggins and his mother, Susan Messick; grandchildren Brandie Allen (Alex), Garret Maples, Casey Wiggins; great-grandson Mason Wade; brother Sonny Messick; as well as a host of other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents Nelson Jones Messick and Iva Bailey Messick; sisters Betty Kendrick, Marlene Van Tassel, Pat Moiser, and Bobbie Foxx.

The story of Jimmy Messick is one of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to others. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him as they cherish the moments shared with a remarkable man who made the world a brighter place. Rest in peace, Jimmy; your legacy will never be forgotten. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, February 25 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 26, 2024 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Willow section.
