J.D. Burke

Gastonia – Joseph Daniel “J.D.” Burke, Sr., 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 9, 2022, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Gaston County, North Carolina on September 12, 1936 to the late Clyde and Annie Brown Burke. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his siblings, Katherine Dellinger, Carrie Hudson, Helen Laws, Vada Martin and James Burke.

He retired from Pharr Yarns after many years of dedicated services. He had also work for WestVaco for over 10 years. J.D. was a member of Ranlo Church of God. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and traveling with family. He enjoyed spending time with family. He was a loving, devoted husband and father.

Left to cherish J.D.’s memory is his devoted wife, of 63 years, Evelene Herms Burke; his children, Danny Burke, and Sharon Burke; grandchildren, Daniel Burke III, Kevin Burke and fiancé Alexis Rhodes, Melanie Hildreth and husband Matt, and Sara Hayes; great grandchildren Emma and Kellan Adams, Ethan Hildreth and soon to be Lorelei Kathleen Burke.

A Celebration of Life service will be Sunday, September 11^th at 3:00 p.m. at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor D.R. Shortridge officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p. m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Evergreen “A Quiet Place” Pallbearers will be Kellan Adams, Kevin Burke, Brian Mason, Jacob Mason, Daniel Burke, Scott Lemley and Eric Maddy
