Newton - Jerry Wayne Boggs, 66, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at Carolina Caring. He was born in Catawba County on October 3, 1954. Jerry was the son of the late Leroy and Wilma Sigmon Boggs.
After graduation from Maiden High School in 1972, Jerry was a telecommunicator for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for 14 years. He then began work for the Catawba County 911 Center, first as a Telecommunicator and then as the Director before retiring after 30 years of service. Jerry was also a member of the Conover Masonic Lodge #709. Jerry married Angela Hedrick on October 4, 1996. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and also attended Fairbrook Baptist Church. Jerry loved fishing, going to the beach, and his Dachshunds Max, Lucy, and (RIP) Ginger Snapp. In addition to his wife, Angela, Jerry is also survived by one son, Jason Boggs (Stephanie) of Sherrills Ford; two daughters, Kristy Wilson (Scott) of Hickory and Breanna Boggs, Newton; sister, Janie Lail (Ronnie) of Hickory; niece, Angela Lail Calliope (Gary) of Maiden and nephew Chad Lail (Megan) of Hickory. Jerry was blessed with 13 grandchildren; Karey, Alyssa, Sevanna, Jacob, Noah, David, Hannah, Jonah, MaKenna, Jenna, Grant, Chance, and Reagan.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Saturday, April 24th at New Hope Baptist Church in Maiden. Funeral and Graveside Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 25th at 3:00 p.m., at New Hope Baptist Church, 1577 Prison Camp Road, Newton, NC with Pastor Rick Davis officiating.
Pallbearers will be Chad Lail, Steve Hedrick, Lewis White Junior, Ronnie Barefoot, Bill "Took" Yount, and Buddy Weaver. Honorary Pallbearers: Members of the Catawba County 911 Center.
In memory of Jerry, memorial contributions may be sent to Carolina Caring of Newton, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
