Jody "Joe" Scott Huss, born on September 23, 1957, in Gaston County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, at Carolina Caring-Sherrills Ford Hospice House in Sherrills Ford, NC. Joe’s life was marked by a quiet strength, enduring love for his family, and a presence that will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Those who mourn his loss while cherishing his memory include his devoted sister, Candace Huss Hulsey, and his beloved niece, Jennifer Simpson. Their lives have been deeply enriched by Joe’s steadfast care, warmth, and unwavering support throughout the years.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, George Brice Huss, his mother, Mickie Thomas Huss, and his brother, George Michael Huss. Though these cherished family members have gone before him, their legacies remain ever intertwined in the hearts of those who remain.
Born and raised in the heart of Gaston County, Joe’s roots stretched deep into his community and family. The foundation laid during his early years shaped a man whose kindness and devotion touched many lives. Joe’s journey through life was one defined by dignity, resilience, and the sincere affection he offered to those around him. Joe proudly served over 10 years, in the U.S. Navy as an Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator. he also received the Good Conduct Award, Battle "E" Award, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He made a good career serving in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed reading a lot, studying the Bible, world history and learning about different wars He worked as an Electronic Engineer with Bell South for over 20 years. He also enjoyed collecting die-cast airplanes. and working on Facebook.
Joe will be honored with a graveside service on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Gaston Memorial Park, War Memorial section, located at 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC. Following the graveside service, a visitation with refreshments will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28054, where friends and family alike are welcome to gather and pay their respects.
As the Huss family joins together in remembrance, they invite all who knew and cared for Joe to celebrate his lasting impact, dignified presence, and the quiet marks of love and integrity he leaves behind. Joe’s memory will be held close, his life deeply appreciated, and his absence profoundly felt.
Joe’s life was one of simplicity, sincerity, and steadfast love for his family. As those who cherished him gather to pay their final respects, may they find comfort in the memories they created together and, in the example, he set—a life fully lived with compassion and quiet dignity.
