John Everett Dugan, Sr. age 88, passed away peacefully at home on April 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Corinth, Mississippi, son of the late Clyde E. Dugan and Verda Ervin Dugan. He was preceded in death by his son, John E. Dugan Jr.; his sisters, Peggy D. Davis, Clara D. Rogers, and Lucille Duncan; and his brothers, James Dugan and L.C. Dugan.
John proudly served as a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard. He loved his country and wore the American flag pin proudly. A jack of all trades, he was a devoted handyman. He retired from ABF and later worked as a car transporter which we referred to as “the car guys” at Keith Hawthorne Ford. He loved music, singing, and playing the guitar, often performing at church and open mic nights at Floyd and Blackies Coffeeshop. He was a member of Berea Baptist Church, where he loved singing in the choir and performing special country gospel songs during the times he was able.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Maude Christine Dugan; his son, Pat Kane and his wife Crystal; his daughter, Kathy Ramsey; his daughter, Sheila Clark and her husband Keenan; his twin sister, Mary Roberts and her husband Dale; his sister, Anne McClain and her husband Larry; his sister, Jan Jackson and her husband Connie; his sister Clyda Robertson; his sister-in-law, Nelda Malinowski, his brother-in-law, Bill Barnhill and his wife Patsy; 8 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 am in the Mark Section at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 S. New Hope Road, Gastonia, North Carolina, with Pastor Joe Lawing officiating.
