Belmont – Reverend John Howard Gibbs, 82, passed away on July 5, 2021, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was a native of St. Louis, MO, born on September 17, 1938, to the late Marvin Gibbs and Delma Short Gibbs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Doris Barr Gibbs; siblings, Dwain Gibbs, JoAnn Gibbs, Charlotte Summers, and Vivian Cooke.
Reverend Gibbs faithfully served with his wife in his preaching and singing ministry for 60 years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife on many trips during his ministry. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church, Gastonia, NC.
Survivors include son, Reverend Darin (Kim) Gibbs; daughter, Julie (Chris) Cline; grandchildren, Easton & Krestyn Cline, and Makenna, Julianna, Olivia, & Lyla Gibbs; his siblings, Ken (Shelley) Gibbs, Jim (Carol) Gibbs, Don Cooke, Joyce (Dale) Hollingshead and a sister in law, Marsha Gibbs.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 pm until 6:30 pm Wednesday, July 7th at First Free Will Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 6:30 p.m., with Rev. Darin Gibbs officiating. Interment will be at Good Springs Cemetery in Tennessee.
Funeral services will be conducted at Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church in Pleasant View, TN on Saturday, July 10th at 12:00 pm with his son, Darin Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Good Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, July 10th from 10:00 am until the hour of service at 12:00 pm. There is no prior visitation at the funeral home.
