Gastonia – John Richard King, 74, passed away on January 21, 2022 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Mitchell County, North Carolina, on February 15, 1947 to the late James Albert King and Cannie Biddix King. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son in law, Tim McCurry, siblings, James T. King and William Kester King
John dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren, often going to the beach, attending ballgames, fishing and going to "Horse Play" to ride horses. He was a member of City Church. John was proudly employed at Kings Way Enterprises for over 30 years before retiring. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.
Survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Vicky Sudduth King; his children, John (Kim) Gordy, Angie McCurry; his wonderful loving grandchildren, Jacqueline Gordy, Brook White, T.J. McCurry, Sarah Gordy and Preston McCurry; sisters, Barbara K (Cecil) Frye, Mary Ball, Myrtle Callahan, and Patricia (Cecil) Moon; numerous nieces and nephews
Visitation for family and friends will be 12:30 – 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, January 26 at the City Church
A Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at the City Church, 3100 City Church Street, Gastonia with Pastor Dickie Spargo officiating.
Due to the Covid outbreak, if you feel the need to stay home, a card or phone call to the family will be appreciated.
Pallbearers will be Preston McCurry, Mark King, Scott Moon, Ronnie Ball, Jason King and Kenneth Gary.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to his funeral expenses.
The family will be at the home of his sister, Mary Ball, 2617 Bernice Drive, Gastonia, NC
