Johnny Calbert Terry, Sr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on October 4, 2026 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center . He was born on June 8, 1944 in Gaston County to the late John Marion Terry and Nannie Kate Stacy Terry.

Mr. Terry lived a life marked by devotion to his family, faithful service to his community, and deep enjoyment of the simple things that brought people together. He served in law enforcement for more than 21 years, working in Gaston County and also in Georgia. His years in public service reflected a steady commitment to others and to the responsibilities he carried.

A member of Fraley Memorial Baptist Church, Johnny often served within his church community. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest pride was found in his children and grandchildren. He loved old cars and enjoyed fishing, and he especially treasured spending time with family and friends. Family visits brought him particular happiness, and he also enjoyed dining at his favorite restaurants, Kyle Fletcher BBQ and Cheddar's Restaurant and most of all his visits from his family.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Gann Terry, his beloved companion of 58 years. He also leaves behind his children: R. Scott Terry and his wife, Lisa; Rev. E. Todd Terry; Debra A. Terry; Johnny C. Terry, Jr. and his wife, Jamie; and W. Derek Terry and his wife, Melissa. His legacy continues in his wonderful grandchildren, Katie Moose, Mikaela Martel and her husband, Norbert, Ayla Terry, Evan Terry, and Poppy Terry, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Johnny is also survived by his brother, Robert S. Terry, Sr. and his wife, Phyllis; his sisters, Joerine Millen and Loretta T. Horne; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He shared valued friendships with Barry Crisp, Melvin Proctor, and Don Roper, whose companionship was an important part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Marion Terry; his mother, Nannie Kate Stacy Terry; his brother, Leon M. Terry, Sr.; and his sister, Linda A. McGinnis.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Fraley Memorial Baptist Church, 3025 Fraley Church Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will take place at Gaston Memorial Park, War Memorial 3 section, 1200 S New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Cason, Rob Terry, Leon Terry, Jr., Evan Terry, Norbert Martel, and Vonn Isenhour. Honorary pallbearer will be Barry Crisp.

Johnny Calbert Terry, Sr. will be remembered for his faithful service, his love for his family, and the warmth he brought to those who knew him. His life was one of commitment, fellowship, and enduring love, and his memory will remain a blessing to all who shared in it.
