Jon Mark Maurice Purser

Jon “Mark” Maurice Purser, 64, passed away in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on September 23, 2025.

He was born in Gaston County, North Carolina on October 25, 1960 to Ruth Williams Purser and the late James Malcome Purser, Sr.

Mark worked in law enforcement for Bessemer City Police, Mount Holly Police, and he served in the United States Marine Corps. After his military service he became a deputy for the Gaston County Sheriff Department until he retired. He was a humble, gentle, and loving man who loved to be around his family, especially his three wonderful grandchildren. Mark would talk to anyone he met and never met a stranger. He was the kind of person who made fast friends with everyone. Marks memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his son David Purser and his wife Jessica, who he took in as a daughter; brothers, Mike Purser (Erica) and Mitch Purser Ryan (Mary); sister, Kathy Sanborn (Bruce); grandchildren, Brayden, Liam, and Taylor; his special dog and pal, Tonka; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with military honors from the Gaston County Honor Guard. The family will greet guest following the service.
